I’d like to share a classic client-generation strategy that companies in a variety of industries have used successfully for years.

Oddly enough, it’s rarely used in the legal profession, but we routinely use it with our attorney clients because it’s a time-tested and proven strategy to land new cases.

What is it?

A deceptively simple technique called “lumpy mail”.

Basically, instead of sending a letter in a flat envelope, you place a physical object in the envelope, making it lumpy. Usually, the physical object is loose, so it moves around as the envelope is handled by potential clients.

Why do this?

Because it invokes an insatiable curiosity – creating an itch that can only be scratched by opening the envelope.

As a result, they almost can’t help but read the letter.

More letters read means more calls to your firm.

Simple math.
