In this informative podcast, Richard Jacobs, the president and founder of Speakeasy Authority Marketing, discusses business ideas attorneys can utilize to not only get through this COVID-19 period but to increase business in some other areas not often considered.
Richard Jacobs is a respected authority in marketing. His company, Speakeasy Authority Marketing, has helped hundreds of attorneys take their marketing efforts to a higher level, to bring in better clients and increase profits.
In this period of coronavirus, when things are temporarily off-kilter, Jacobs states that some attorneys he’s been in touch with have decided to simply wait it out, and have sort of given up. However, other attorneys have chosen to be more proactive, to use this period as a time to delve into old files, to look for expungements, commonalities, etc., and grow their business. He cites the example of one DUI attorney who is experiencing a decrease in business who is expanding his firm’s outreach and services, to now handle all types of criminal cases. As the attorney stated, there will probably be, unfortunately, more cases of domestic abuse, or other issues, now that people are staying in their homes most of the time, and well, that leads to new criminal cases, and a need for attorneys to manage those cases.
Jacobs states that by using this unusual period in our nation’s history to dig deeper, to learn more about clients, to organize past clients into groups and understand why they came to you in the first place, you will learn more about how to market to clients, and will have an advantage after this coronavirus period is over. Look in your files and look for commonalities between clients. Jacobs talks about the rise in other types of crimes that is already occurring now that society has shifted temporarily to a stay-at-home lifestyle. With spousal abuse, divorce, theft, etc. possibly growing, there will be a new business for attorneys. As the coronavirus spreads, there will be, unfortunately, more need for wills, estate planning, and probate, etc., so while the coronavirus has slowed some business for attorneys it will increase other kinds of business for them.
For business law attorneys, small businesses will need chapter 13 restructuring, help with their cash flow statements, commercial leases, etc. As Jacobs states, as unfortunate it is that coronavirus is here, and while no one wants it to be here, it does actually increase business for attorneys, because people need attorneys a great deal when they are experiencing problems, or need to prevent problems from occurring. Attorneys are there to help people when times are tough, and right now, times are tough, so expect more business. Think about your marketing, and restructure if you need to, because coronavirus will increase the need for legal services.
Jacobs wraps up by discussing his ‘virtual close’ system, which provides a method to best your competition during a time where most people don’t want to come into an office.
